Learning to do handstand pushups can be a very challenging task for some people. Here I am going to show you how to progressively, from any level, improve your handstand pushups. Step 1: 20 pushups
Most people can do 20 pushups but if you can't, you need to start working on it right away. You won't be prepared to do 1 full handstand pushup if you can't do 20 pushups. Even though they work different muscles, doing pushups will give you the stamina to hold yourself up.
Step 2: 10 dive bomber pushups
These are like normal pushups but your butt is higher and you're working your shoulders more. Get in the pushup position with your elbows close to your body and your hands at shoulder width. Then walk your legs closer to your head while lifting your back, you should feel the pressure on your shoulders, and to do a pushup, simply bring your head to the floor. Start working on doing these pushups every other day until you are ready for step 3.
Step 3: handstand hold w/ wall
Now, practice holding a handstand on the wall. Some people might have a hard time making this transition but it isn't that hard. Now that you've worked on dive bomber pushups and on handstands, your arms are ready to support your weight. Just put a pillow or two under your head in case you fall.
What you need to do is find a good solid wall, facing the wall place your hands at about one foot away from it, then kick one of your legs back and up behind you towards the wall. If your foot doesn't reach the wall the first try, it's all good, just keep trying and kick a little harder, and if your foot slams on the wall, kick a little gentler. As you keep practicing, you will find your perfect kick sooner or later.
Work on holding the handstand w/ a wall for 20 seconds then you'll be ready to take on the next step.
Step 4: lowering
